Both/And AKA Learning to Walk and Chew Gum at the Same Time

The thing about dreams and aspirations is that they are supposed to give you something to look forward to.

They are the things you are working toward with the expectation that one day, you walk right into the dream. One day you’ll be living the aspiration.

One day could be tomorrow. One day could be ten years from now. One day.

But some times, somewhere on the way between here and there, the dreams get blurry. The aspirations feel like delusions because reality usually hits harder than anyone ever told you to plan for.

Distractions, side quests, and plot twists are what real life is made of. They can make those dreams feel like fairytales. Those aspirations become just fun fantasies to visit in your mind from time to time, because with all this….stuff, how could you possibly pick up and continue from where you paused? How can you start again from where you were forced to stop?

Then one day, you’re praying and asking God for peace, clarity, direction…something and He reminds you of the thing He didn’t tell you to put down.

He reminds of the path where you strayed from and something divine happens.

All signs point to the dream. All roads lead to the aspiration and you have a choice: You can wallow in the pain of what could’ve been. Rage in that time wasted, sulk in the could’ves, mourn the idea of how far you should’ve been.

Or.

You choose to continue the path, to dream again to actualize aspiration, to double down and carry on, because the time will pass either way.

So you can either be further ahead or further behind, but there is no standing still.

For me, the rainbows and stars are the signs and graffiti I find when I’m moving from one step to another as I’m actualizing aspirations.

As I post my first blog post in years, that actually speaks to the reason why I started Highly and Humbly to begin with: To have authentic conversations around the reality of navigating faith in the modern world.

I am making my way back to the path I was called to.

What about you?
